A year has passed since the 7.0 earthquake devastated Haiti. During this time, many organizations have been on the ground working to bring aid to the Haitians. We’ve been lucky to work with some of those on the front lines of the effort. In the next few blog posts, read about how Inveneo, NetHope and Samasource used micro-documentaries to showcase their learnings about what it is taking to rebuild Haiti and gain more support.
It appears that many more organizations will now be able to leverage documentaries to support their work as well. A couple of weeks ago, we were very excited to learn of the Ford Foundation’s commitment to make $50 Million available for such documentaries. Like the Peery Foundation who made standard the funding of a series of micro-documentaries with the grants they make, the Ford Foundation is now heavily investing in their belief in the persuasive power of documentaries for social change.
And finally, I wanted to share this New York Times video, Sounds of Kindness, reminding us of Henry James when he said, “Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.”
