The pursuit of truth is always a topic of great conversation, and often technical debate, for documentarians. While of course we are committed to truthful portrayals in our films, our primary interest at Micro-Documentaries lies in exploring possible truths for the future — shedding light and clarity on the paths to a future that is different and better than where we are today.
This novel caught my attention as it explores the storytelling dilemmas of a young BBC documentary filmmaker and promises to have us question how we see everything. The story takes place in a vision for the future: an experimental open prison in India in which convicted murderers live side by side with their families. The Village makes for a fascinating story, and also happens to be terribly relevant to us right now as we witness the current hunger strike and the embarrassing state of prisons in California.
