William Bynum – Hope Credit Union Winner of John P. McNulty Prize 2013

“HOPE recognizes that we are all bound to each other, that we are a part of a common humanity.” — William Forest Winter, former Mississippi Governor

The $100,000 John P. McNulty Prize goes to William Bynum, founder of Hope who is ensuring that hard-working people in the Mid South have access to tools they need to buy homes, start businesses, educate their children, and otherwise support their families regardless of their station in life. Bynum has advised Presidents Bill Clinton, George Bush, and Barack Obama on community development issues. He founded HOPE to provide financial services that support jobs, housing, access to health care, and other critical needs in the region’s most distressed communities.

We were honored to make a series of micro-documentaries about William Bynum for the McNulty Prize. Above is the second installment in the series. As we learned from our time on the Delta, HOPE truly is proof that financial institutions focused on community development can improve the lives of thousands of people in the process.
