Last week we were honored to have one of our microdocs, “The Sunnydale Kids,” win the Golden Gate award at the San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival. The event brings together a global collection of films to celebrate the importance of the ocean and the need for all of us to chip in as its stewards.
This year’s entries were submitted from 17 countries, on topics ranging from diving to surfing, sharks to ocean conservation, island cultures to the cultural importance of the world’s marine resources. The festival featured them all, including 25 world or U.S. premieres, and distinguished 10 films with prestigious awards. We were doubly honored to take home one of these as well!
“The Sunnydale Kids” tells the story of inner city kids in San Francisco and the healing power that a day at the ocean with some surfboards can provide. Last fall it won “Best Short” at the Mill Valley Surf Film Festival. Now it’s added the “Golden Gate Award” at SF Ocean Film which celebrates a local filmmaker for excellence in film production.
